Another update to the Skype iPhone and iPad apps
has been released, adding new features and bug fixes. Desktop users
will recognize some of these features, which include the ability to log
in with your Microsoft account. This integration is the next step in
Microsoft's plan to replace the Messenger IM client with Skype.
The Skype iPhone app can now be used to chat directly with contacts
on Hotmail, Messenger or Outlook.com. Those who are new to Skype will
find that an account can be created directly from the app, no computer
required. Account holders with the iPhone 5 probably noticed that Skype
optimized its app for the larger display, already released in a
previous update.
Other new features that have been added to the latest release of Skype for iOS include:
- Tap and hold on instant messages to edit them.
- Choose an emoticon while typing an instant message.
- Animated emoticons for devices with a Retina display.
- Edit saved phone numbers right from the dial pad.
Skype keeps getting better on mobile devices, and provides an easy and inexpensive way to keep in touch. Skype for iPhone provides photo sharing, free video calling and instant messaging over a cellular data or Wi-Fi connection. Anti-shake technology is built-in for a smooth video calling picture. Credits can be purchased to make low cost calls to mobile phones and land lines, or to send text messages.
Besides mobile devices, Skype can be used to communicate on tablets, computers and even compatible televisions. 250 million monthly users are currently active on Skype around the world. Skype version 4.2 can be downloaded from the App Store for free.
